A desk setup worth keeping

A desk rewards obsession more than any other furniture in a home, because you sit at it for thousands of hours. That is the entire argument for spending money here and none of it applies to the things people usually buy first. Cable trays, monitor arms and pen cups are cheap and fine. The pieces below are the ones where the expensive version is genuinely different.

Every argument for a chair this expensive collapses into one fact. You can still order a replacement cylinder for one built in 2004. Spread across a twelve year warranty the cost per year drops below replacing a cheap chair four times, which is what actually happens.
One keyboard, then stop
The keyboard is where the desk stops being generic. A gasket mounted aluminium board on real firmware types the same in ten years as it does today, and the hot swap sockets mean the parts that wear are the parts you can replace.
Nothing you put on a desk makes you work better. Some of it makes the hours less unpleasant, which is a different and more honest claim.
If you only buy one
Both are bought once. Only one of them changes how your back feels at six in the evening.
