What we tell people to skip

A recommendation only means something if the same publication is willing to say no. These are the objects we see bought most often and would not buy again.

Affiliate publishing has a structural problem. Every incentive points at recommending more things, and none point at telling you to keep your money. So here is the counterweight, and it will stay on the site as the catalogue grows.

Aroma Diffuser

The clearest case we have of a design premium attached to an ordinary appliance. The output is too weak for a normal room, it needs descaling constantly, and it photographs beautifully. That last part is doing most of the work.

The pattern repeats across categories. An object that appears constantly in interior photography, priced two or three times its performance, bought because the picture was calm. We are not against buying things for how they look. We are against being sold that as function.
